Hey there, Hillstcrew. Indeed it has grown! And great to hear about your annual review. That is great, great news. I am going to sticky this thread so others can read it.

Congratulations, I'm glad to hear your good news. I'm looking at having a TKR myself. It's encouraging to know that a lot of people have had replacements and that they are doing so well. It's a nice change from some of the horror stories.

Hi! You sound just like me! I had my first surgery on the 6th of March and the second hip on the 6th of June (BTHR). I just turned 44yrs on the 23 of april. I am doing exceptionally well, considering i was disabled! I still have not seen the OS as i want to wait for the second hip to turn 1 year old too. But i am happy that you are doing well, well done. It was the best thing i also did for myself. Best wishes, Sonia.

It's 13 weeks since I had a metal on metal hip replacement. I am 50 years old. Pre-op I was suicidal due to the pain. I was on 20mrg Morphine patches which made me very sick, I lost 2 stone in wieght and was very depressed. Since the operation I have got my life back, pain totally gone, just aches from time to time but am sure with time the aches will go. The operation was the BEST THING I EVER DID. Off on cruise in two weeks as a pick me up. Anyone concerned about having the op needn't worry just go for it as you will get your life back. I hope afer a year my consultant says the same to me. Hope you continue to get better. All the best, Carol.

Hello all, my one year is coming up the end of August. I had both hips done at the same time. I am back in PT because of bursitis (sp) and tenonitist(sp). Never expected I still wouldn't be pain free. But my PT is good and I am working hard on developing by gluts. I thought I was doing the right thing by working out and increasing weights and tensions, but I guess I wasn't getting the right muscles strong and at the same time I was over using others. So I am back to basics and hope to be good as gold in a few months.

Who would have thought exercising those muscles would have caused you such pain! Hope your new regime does the trick for you! Keep us posted and feel better!

Hi,
I had my 1 yr check today for my RTHR on 8.26.08. Was fairly non eventful in a good way as all is going great. The xray shows that my bone is doing a good job starting to bond with the new hip and dr liked my gait--said no one would ever know I had had a hip problem (biggest compliment).

So, don't have to return unless a problem develops. I asked about the biomet metal on metal. He is still using them. IN fact, since last year he is putting more of these hips into older folks as they are so stable.

He does admit the one unknown is the metal ion question. However, still no evidence that there are problems having increased ions in blood stream. so I won't worry.

Still hard to believe that this surgery is so life changing. At this point I am starting to forget how disabling my bad hip was.

I still enjoy this forum so will stick around on occasion as I do now to hear about how all are doing.

Thanks for listening.
Laurie

Hi, it's now 18 months since my hip replacement and everything was going well until I decided to do some exercise using an exercise bike. I spent 30 minutes a day for a month but then I started with pain all the way down my hip replacement leg. It was very severe and so I have stopped, the pain gradually went away and so I will stick to gentle exercise like walking. Carol C

Hello Carol,
So pleased to hear your positive story and that you are doing so well.
I'm Jan, from UK but living in Goa where I had my first THR (metal on metal) just over 5 weeks ago.
I'm 52 and like yourself had a miserable time with morphine and all the associated problems.
I am still in quite a lot of pain but it's bearable with med's.
I just wondered if you can recall how you were at this stage post op'?
I am walking with the aid of a stick, but get so sore and tired after even a short walk. Without the stick I lurch off from the THR leg/foot too quickly and worry that this awful gait will be forever, how were you at this point ?
I am worried that the second THR which I need will perhaps take place too soon and that I won't have a good leg to stand on.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Jan
