Default 10 day update

PA said yesterday that the x-rays all look good, and that I can start showering. My only restrictions seem to be:
-no deep lunges
- no extension w/ foot turned out
- if it complains, back off.

Start outpatient PT on Monday - but no pool work for 2 more weeks.

Apparently the hip had deteriorated substantially even from their x-rays in Nov where it was clearly bone-on-bone. Said that there wasnt any cartilage left on the femur and that it had started to flatten...and that what they saw correlated pretty well w/ all the grinding and crunching that I was experiencing.

They are printing the xrays on CD and mailing them...I didnt ask if they had to use dysplasia screws or anything - that will be interesting to see.

Worst pain right now is in the butt! I saw stuff about sitting on pillows and thot 'how come, my incision is in the front?'. Apparently swelling doesnt take kindly to being SAT on. Sitting on a feather pillow now and it is helping a lot.

Am going to try the picture thing later today...

AND - managed a straight leg raise to close to 40 degrees this morning!!!! YEA!

Good report, kjt! Photos would be nice. Take care of yourself and stay comfortable!!! It sounds like you caught that hip just in time.

kjt, I had the bone-on-bone, no cartilage, grinding and crunching that you mentioned, too. Yuck--talk about agonizing pain!!! That's why this surgery gave me my life back--a life that is filled with possibilities and pleasures. My incision also encroached into my buttock area and sitting really posed a bit of a problem. The discomfort goes away within a couple of weeks so that you can sit without the feather pillows. The first month is just plain awkward all the way around; after that, you just progress like magic!

Kjt -

Glad to hear things are going well. I missed out on the grinding and clunking - my was more of the silent torture variety. I have one nice shiny screw in mine, which was posterior. Happy healing!
