If you had a shuffle Ipod right now, what would be on it and where would it take you back in time?
When I had insomnia after my hip operation, I actually ordered one of those Apple Shuffle Ipods and downloaded so many songs that brought me back to the 60's 70's 80's...Saved my life in the middle of the night.....
Steely Dan, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, The Cars, Moody Blues, The Beatles, Elton John, Christopher Cross, Peter Frampton, Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, Phil Collins, The Commodores, America, Boston, Journey, Simon and Garfunkel, Hootie and the Blowfish, Blue Oyster Cult, Crosby Steels Nash and Young..........
I could go on forever...
Favorite concert back then...Crosby,Steels and Nash...OUR HOUSE(Houston, Texas)....
Would love to see today....Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins....just sayin.....

GOsh, I love all kinds of music if it's good. I love the 60's and 70's everything from John Denver, Barry Manilow, to Led Zepplin, The Who, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, David Bowie. I enjoy the songs and bands of the big band era, too. Jethro Tull is a great band. My first concert was the Beatles with Aretha Franklin and the Righteous Brothers as the warm up. My last concert was John Denver, I think. Country western is great, too. I enjoy some of the new comers like Carrie Underwood and some of the oldies like George Strait. Saw SInatra in concert - that was an awesome experience. Small venue. Been to lots of concerts in the 70's - lived in St. Louis and every tour came through there.
My mp3 player has Denver, Zepplin, Jim Croce, Crosby Stills & Nash, Neil Young, America, Doobie Brothers, Carrie Underwood, Eagles, Meat Loaf, Steely Dan, ABBA, Josh Groban, Sinatra, Stones, Barbara Mandrell, Carpenters, etc.

JAMIE!!!!! How the heck are you, girl?
Hi, Skeet!!! I'm great! I'm about 4 months out from my surgery and getting around really well. I even quit taking the Aleve except just now and then when I overdo things. My knee still has a little muscle weakness that I try to work on. But it doesn't impact anything I try to do really. I have been spending days working on the flower beds out front of our house to at least make that part look good for some company we had a week or so ago. Then I decided to redo the guest room for their visit too. I painted (up and down ladders), redid the closet (moving piles of clothes out) and we hauled mattresses up and down the stairs switching from a double bed to two twins. I got it ready just in time. Then at our lake house we had a new deck built last summer that needed to be stained, so I did that about a month ago....it is big and that was quite a job. I got most of it completed and we'll finish the rest up when we go back down after the 4th. I've also been helping my hubbie tear out our old deck here at home. We have one more big load to do before it is all gone. Then....we have to move a lot of dirt to fill in where ground has sunk in 20-some years. We need to do this dirt work all under where the deck was and around the new concrete we had poured around the pool. It is yet another major job. If that's not enough, I'm also trying to finish a remodel of our great room. I have some painting to do, rewiring the home theater system (we moved the television to a new spot) and painting new metal stair spindles that will be installed. Oh, and I have to stain the new stairs too. Sooooo.....you can see why I don't have a lot of time for sitting at the computer. It will be amazing if we can get all this stuff done by winter....but we're trying! I'm just happy to be ABLE to do my part. I have not been able to work much on projects in the last 2 or 3 years.
Are ya doing okay??? Been out on any shoots lately??? I still smile when I think of those photos you posted....amazing!

Wow, I LOVE all the music everyone has been talking about! Love classic rock and the 80s also still hold a special place in my heart. My husband can't stand my iPod!! The last concert I went to was the last Stones tour - A Bigger Bang. It was the best concert I've ever seen! I saw Bryan Adams (I heard his name come up earlier) and my first concert was Hall and Oates!! Ha Ha, but I loved them back then!! this is the funniest though, I saw Manilli Vanilli. Does anyone remember them - the lip syncers? I really do love all music. My iPod is very eclectic everything from classic rock, 80s, music theatre, country, top 40, 70s, and yes, even some rap.
I think I'll listen to my iPod on that note! No pun intended.

hip replacement makes me young again.
I love music and have aggrivated my kids many times as I will not leave the car if a song I like is playing.
I don't like country, rap or classical or hard core, but pretty much everything else is great.
My problem is I rarely know who the band is and am always asking my kids the name of the current ones.
For me sometinmes the louder the better.
I guess I will need prosthetic ears too!!

Judy, I love loud hard rock music, too. Takes me back to the 70's when I lived from concert to concert! Unfortunately, my husband isn't a hard rock kind of guy. My kids are though. My 15 year old is a guitarist and his fav songs are almost all from the 70's and 80's. He knows all the bands and who the guitarists are, etc. Van Halen is one of his favs. My 17 year old son is a drummer and in a rock band. And my 21 year old daughter is pianist with an outstanding voice. I always wanted them to put together a band... but what do I know? My husband sang professionally and spent several years in the American BoyChoir. Sang on TV, for the pope in Italy, went on tours, then was a singing waiter at Max's Opera Cafe in California. He has a beautiful tenor voice. The whole dang family is into music. So were/are our parents. Kind of fun when we all get together!

Skeet,
Sounds like a fun family.,
I have a 15 year old guitarist who also knows everything about who is playing what and loves rock. My 13 year old when in the car with me likes to ask me to change the station and comments "you like that, that is Tim's music". Tim is my 15 year old guitar rocker!!!
My husband listens to "yes" way too frequently and does not like loud music either. His other choices sometimes border on elevator music.

Hey Skeet and Judy,
Yes, one and two generations back, we had a very musical family. My grandmother was with the Dallas Civic Opera and sang when she was younger. Luciano Pavaroti adored her and I have their picture in my living room. He called her "Auntie Mame" My grandfather was the band director in Corsicana and all the little towns around. He actually lead the UT Band in the 40's when the Head Band Director would be absent. My aunt majored in voice at SMU and her daughter could play anything. My mom had a beatiful voice also and then the buck stopped there for my family. I played piano but was more interested in playing outside. Could kick myself now..Just keep encouraging your kids to be musical...Patty

Skeet,
I think I asked you before how old your mom and dad were and names and what they did and did you have any grandparents that lived around there? My grandfather was Joel C. Trimble and my grandmother was Aline Kirk Byrd. They were divorced. She was actually married to Leo Byrd who was a legacy of Admiral D. Byrd that discovered the North Pole...A very colorful family I had on my mom's side....

Several months ago, I was sitting in the hot bath soaking my leg, minding my own business when I looked around the rim of the tub at all of the stuff my wife had sitting there. I saw a tube of apricot scrub..I like apricots. Sooooo, I got some and put it on a washrag. It said scrub, so I did....my whole body including an area that shouldn't be sanded...I rinsed off, got out to dry off and saw that my body was cherry red.
I think I scrubbed off two layers of skin. My wife laughed which further wounded my pride. She's got a piece of what looks like a brick with wholes up there. And some type of device with a bent razor blade. Said it removes callouses...Women are evil. They shouldn't leave stuff like that laying around knowing that men are going to mess with it.

I like Willie. Concerts are definitely different than when I used to go all the time. I was usually stoned and we never thought about buying food at a concert. We didn't go to eat... but then I was a rocker at that time. Now when my hubby and I go, we have a nice dinner first, then go to the concert, then a nice hotel for the weekend. There might be a glass of wine involved, but that's the extent of my vices. The closest I got to a country western band was Kenny Rogers and the First Edition and maybe the Allman Brothers Band. I was pretty hard core rock and roll. Still love loud, rock music. My husband is more soft rock at best. Drives the kids nuts. I love their music, Dad hates it.

70's. They played their famous drug song as people were passing the peace....hahaha....Could not quite stop the giggles but yes, we did make it through that time and now look at us....Watching our kids and their odd music....

I have the opposite problem. I buy nice quality shampoo, soap, conditioner, etc. Then my husband (Mr. I can't pass up a good deal) buys some horse mane shampoo for $2/gallon and puts it in the shower. I hate that he uses that crap. He's losing hair as it is so I'm trying to take care of him, but he is a rebel at heart.
You mean that doesn't put a mane back on his head....lol....

Gotta jump in on the shampoo front. I splurged and bought some Pilosophy shower gels. Doug, FYI, they can go on hair or body, safe for even you. One day my son asks if I like the lime one in the shower. I say yes, he says "me too, I use it as a pre-wash before I wash with the Head and Shoulders. It makes my hair very soft..." I think, listen kid, at $20 a bottle it is a pre-NOTHING! It is amazing how they just assume it will always be there and how easily it gets there. Was I like that?

Jennifer,
How about jumping in our shower? Let's see, Pantene for the daughter, Aussie for two of the boys and dad, I use Loreal and my other son prefers that also... and then there are the body washes....With six of us, we only utilize two of the three showers so it is called rip off from one bathroom to the other. Drives me crazy and the expense of buying all the different products....BUT, everyone has to have their own flipping shampoo and conditioner......

Then you've got the Axe deodorants. spray and pit juice . Between hubby & son seems like i'm buying it every other week. Are the girls worse than boys or vice versa?

Hey Patty,
I'm with you where the girls have their own expensive shampoos and conditioners. My son and husband use about half a bottle a day of anyone's, which causes screaming. I just can't keep a damn hairbrush in my possesion unless I hide it really good. Then I forget where it is.

My kids used what I bought or they would have to buy their own. I guess we are old fashioned parents, and had a budget, (we also disciplined the old way, though we never had to smack them after about the age of 5 years, they learnt by then, we just counted to 3, I guess we would be arrested for that nowadays eh Doug?). Never had any problems when they became teenagers though and still have really great relationships with all three.

I'm with you, Sue. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Mine are well behaved and they buy most of their own stuff. Daughter has naturally curly hair halfway down her back and uses curling mousse like crazy, sons are into American Crew shampoos, Axe, and facial cleanser to keep their skin nice. Thank God we all have separate bathrooms - and they keep their own clean. My daughter has a bathroom in her room like a mini master bedroom and the boys have a bathroom between their rooms that they share and trash. Dad and I are at the other end of the house, but the boys will walk into our shower and take whatever they need. We discover it when we get in - after we are all wet and dripping. Although I will miss them dearly, there are good things about an empty nest!

Sue and Skeet, please do not misunderstand my frustration of a young man learning and maturing as a description of an ill behaved, undisciplined child. I would put my young man up against all young people any day. The comment of him not making sense reflects his state of being exactly where he is supposed to at this stage of his life. Not offended, just did not want to be misunderstood.

Sue,
I don't know how people have latched onto the idea that they can't spank their kids. There may be some liberal state with a law prohibiting it but I'm not aware of it.
My son, when he was younger, knew when I pulled out the paddle, he had crossed the line. I never smacked more than three times...(wish my mother knew that rule).
I've responded to calls where a kid claimed physical abuse by spanking. I asked to see the evidence. Usually I told the parents the the kid needed a few more swats.
I used to work a rough high crime area as a street officer. I learned that the best place to take a kid was to his grandmothers house...Grandma would whip their butts all over the front yard, onto the poarch, and into the house.

Hey Doug,
My kids pulled the child abuse hot line # out when we lived back in Georgia. It was pretty funny in a way. I told them if they called, they would be taken away to some unknown foster home and i would have peace!!!
I don't feel I am a very strict parent, although I do react when I feel they have done something wrong. When my first was in 1st grade and I found out he and a friend had peed on the bathroom floor, I insisted he clean the floor. The school principle would not let him do it though.
Then when he and a few boys were bothering one boy, I gave him a lecture on gangs. I then took him to the local police station and let them talk to him for a while!!!
Jenn
I am not a strict parent and really did not spank after a certain age. With my oldest I bought him a TV for his room and video games. Then I had something valuable to take away. They are all pretty good kids. I just need to keep a close watch on the little one!!!

Oh, I've done the police station lecture many a time. I'd show them the handcuffs, and holding cell. It really helped when we had one in there howling. I started out gruff and ended up friendly.
We would end up in the break room where they could have a coke.

Doug,
Thanks for doing the lecture, it means so much to us parents.
We live in a small town about 15 miles east of los angeles. It is very small town with a cute downtown. The police force is very visable and are on top of everything.
It is great for raising teenagers. I am sure they can still get into some trouble. When we moved here the first time Sierra Madre was rated as one of the nation's top 10 towns to live in outside a metropolitan area due to the safety fact.

Jen, I was only replying to Sue's comments. I understood what you meant but appreciate you providing clarity on your statement, too. I feel the same way with my teenage boys. They are such anomalies. One minute the world is revolving around them and the next they do something loving for someone. They don't fully appreciate the value of money and think our money is theirs to use. That said, I do give my son use of my debit card as he is very responsible. I know that seems to be a conflict in statements but that is where they are right now. I think it is a natural part of their growing up - one minute they are an adult and the next they are a kid.
I used to think my kids were little hellions until I met some who were. We all should count our blessings that our kids are doing as well as they are in today's world.

Judy and Doug, since Cody is working at the gun club for his summer job, he has met the entire police force for a nearby city and for the county. It has helped slow him down as he doesn't want any of them stopping him and then being embarrassed about it. So even pleasant visits with law enforcement seem to be valuable.

Exactly Skeet, they seem (mine at least) to have a real yin & yang thing going on. And I do think it exactly what is supposed to happen at that age (17-23,4,5ish). God help me. I guess that is where the expression just enough rope to hang themself comes in. Some days I think he needs to get out and learn what he thinks he knows, and some days I think he still needs our cover. Two things I do know is that 10 years from now it will be much better and I love him more that I can ever say... (get me a tissue).

I am currently 10 weeks post op from BTKR. My husband and I are huge Blues fans. When I was 3.5 weeks post op, we attended the North Atlantic Blues Festival (http://www.northatlanticbluesfestival.com/) in Rockland, Maine. It is great! The Blues bands play in the pubs on Friday night jamming. On Saturday, we get there early and park ourselves with our own chairs in the shade under a huge tree. The event takes place in Harbor Park with the stage set up on the dock. The venue area then is a natural amphitheatre. The Blues are played all day, with lots of good food available along with numerous vendors. Saturday evening is known as the "Club Crawl" where Route 1 is closed down and Blues bands & musicians are playing on each street corner, club, movie theatre, with lots of food to enjoy. Our weekend bracelet served as any and all cover charges. It usually goes until 2:00 AM on Sunday.
Sunday there is more music at 11:00 AM and they played until 7:00 PM.
It was a Blast!
We also took in the following Blues events this summer while I was recovering. The White Mountain Boogie & Blues Festival (http://www.whitemountainboogie.com/new/) takes place the middle of August every year. It is located in Thornton, NH about 15 minutes north of where we live. This is a Friday night, Saturday, & Sunday festival located at a campground. The family has a maple sugaring business, and a Breakfast resteraunt called "The Sugar Shack". This festival had a fantastic line up this year. We loved it!
Last weekend we took in the Blues & Brews Festival (http://www.bluesnbrews.com/) at Nashoba Valley Ski Area, in Westford, MA. It was a 1 day festival. Upon admittance you got a bracelet with 10 tear off tabs and a Lucite mini 4 ounce beer glass. You got to sample the ones you wanted! The first hour they brew pubs under the tents did not take tickets! That was great! Since I don't drink beer, I was glad that Mike's Hard was there with their new line of Mojitos!
Next Sunday we are off to Wachussett Mountain Ski Area in MA where on Sunday is a BluesFest (http://wawa.wachusett.com/Summer_and_Fall_Events/Bluesfest/default.cfm) . It too should be fun. I hope the weather cooperates!
If you got this far and visited the links, Thanks. I had a blast this summer sitting in my foldable reclining lounge seat with my Cryo/Cuff icing away my knees grooving to the Blues.
Best,
Crystal
