Not sure if this will work, but here goes. Downloaded a couple pics from my cellphone to laptop, then to Photobucket, lets see if they turn out.

First one is 1 hour post op. I look rough, don't I?
http://<a href="http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m132/deverest/?action=view&current=1hourpostop.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m132/deverest/1hourpostop.jpg" border="0" alt="1 hour post op"></a>

And the 2nd: 5 days post op in the recliner at Mom's. I look a bit happier, eh?
The funny looking pillow is something my Wife picked up to keep my head upright when sleeping.
http://<a href="http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m132/deverest/?action=view&current=5dayspostop.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m132/deverest/5dayspostop.jpg" border="0" alt="5 days post op"></a>

Well, all I see is URL codes, but hopefully they'll load when I post this.

FINALLY! Now for the 5 days post op one... (the one above is 1 hour post op!) By the way, what was not working was, when I clicked the 'add image' symbol, it already put the http:// on there, and when I added the direct link, it doubled it. Go figure...

Dalton,
I love your persistance with the pics. I have only posted one of my dog. I really did not do it but had my 13 year old daughter do it.

I can't believe you have your eyes open one hour after surgery. Last summer I have a vague image of my doc talking to me after surgery. Then I remember the ride to my room and all the activity when I got there.

This time the first thing I remember is in my room maybe later in the evening. My surgery was in the morning!!!

You look pretty darn happy on day 5!!!
It is fun to have faces connected to new friends

Hey Dalton,
What up? Loved the pics. I think you can actually go back and delete some of those threads.
You look like I did the first day but much better. I remember my hair being matted to the back of my head and sticking straight up....lol....We all look so fabulous after surgery.....Patty

Thanks so much for the kind words Ladies! Judy, Patty, and Jo...

You guys are the Best! It' took me about 3 hours to figure out how to post those, and finally! I was so happy to be able to do it! By the way, I assume Jo deleted the 4 or 5 'mistrials', so it didn't bog up the whole thread, thank you. As soon as my cane arrives, (and I have a good shave), I'll post some new ones for your guys! Glad to know ya, and glad you've been so much help to me!

I STILL have some of that 'sticky stuff' around my incision, and on my hands and arms where they placed surgical tape, to keep my IV's in place. That stuff is like super glue; very hard to get rid of...

Hey, Dalton, you look exactly like my friend's husband here in Wichita. The funny thing is the guy here is a police officer too!! Weird!
I know what you mean about the sticky stuff. It took about 5 weeks before I could finally scrape it all away with my fingernails!

Hey Bridget!

Yep, it's still coming off in areas... (Sticky stuff). I didn't know you were in Witchita?!? I had a very good friend I served with, and bonded with, from Witchita when I was a Soldier in the 101st in the late 80's. After our tour there, (in KY), he got sent to Panama, and I got sent to Korea. I took leave the Summer of 90', and flew down to see him for a week at FT. Kobbe Panama, then when I got discharged in the Spring of 92', I bought a motorbike and rode all the way from Memphis to see him and his Wife in Witchita, (12 hour ride, and the way back, it stormed on me the entire trip! Was a bummer on a motorcycle, and an empty wallet!), and spent 3 weeks there. It was AWESOME! We went to all the poolhalls, other sites of interest, did some sailing, golfing, and a bunch of other great stuff.
I LOVED Witchita; it was such a "big town, with a small town feel". Tornado Alley, and all that, but the weather was agreeable, the people were SO VERY friendly, and there was tons to do. I even thought about moving back there, but ended up with other adventures. LOVE your town though... had a blast.

You can get stuff to remove that - I found it here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sticky-Stuff-Remover-grease-tar-wax-gum-glue-250ml_W0QQitemZ150265123664QQcmdZViewItem?hash=ite m150265123664&_trkparms=39%3A2%7C65%3A1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) and here (http://www.betterware.co.uk/productdetails.aspx?pid=036190&cid=129&language=en-GB) - check that it is skin safe though - I think most are.

Hey Jo,

Thanks for the links; checked 'em out, and noticed that funny little English pound symbol~ LOL. 3.99 pounds in England; what's that in dollars? About $7.00? I may get some. I used one of those "loofas", (some kind of dead sea urchin or critter, I think), and that got most of it, but made me red.

I've lived here ALL my life! We are always getting more things (retail, restaurants, etc.)that used to be only in the bigger cities! Wichita has really come a long way over the past 5 years. I don't think I could ever move away...all my family still lives here too. In the late 80s, I was graduating from high school, so I doubt that I knew your friend, but what a small world!

Actually Bridget,

YOU may just have met my friends! You said you graduated HS in the late 80's, well me too. I suppose we're about the same age? I'm 38, and I graduated in 88'. Went straight into the Army, and the rest is history. Then again, Witchita isn't a tiny town, so the chances are slim on mutual friends...

Gosh! I should go back to sleep! Talk to ya'll tomorrow...

OK, one more post before I go to bed. I graduated in 1989. I will be 38 on October 17. Actually I tell people I'm 37 in an 87 year-old's body to be more exact!! Ha! (and I don't mean to offend anyone on this blog that may be 87 because if you are 87 and blogging online, I am VERY impressed!!!)

Well Bridget,

You're a "baby" too, like me! Not to make anyone feel bad, but we are kind of the exception to the rule... Actually, just what you said; anyone of senior age who's blogging here, I salute em'!! Not to mention, I'm 38 and barely have the energy to keep up with what I should be doing in recovery. Every one of you who's older, well, you sure impress us with your tenacity and vigor! Keep up the good work!

Still learning how to use this new laptop, and figured out a couple more ways to save and share pics, so thought (since the thread is "NEW PICS"!!), I'd add a couple to boot.
Here goes... hope I have better luck than the 1st time!

That's me, at about age 12, when I went to Denver CO to visit my Dad. I loved that bike, wish I had it now! By the way Josephine, it's a Norton, (a Brit bike, if you didn't notice.) My Dad used to race them in the 70's, has collected them still to this day, and that's the first bike I learned to ride on...

Judy,

You mentioned the scar, thought I'd share... the angle is all wrong (took the pic myself with my razr camera phone, but it gets the jist of it...) Hard to judge the scale, but it's about 9-10 inches long, and healing well. Except when I drive through corners, the minimal G-forces feel like it's opening up. Look forward to seeing yours too, for comparison.

Awesome. I had a friend take mine maybe a week after surgery. My family is afraid to even look at it, so glad you were able to take a pic yourself,I'll haave to try that later.

Hey Judy,
When I go next week to my appt and then to my best friends, she is a whiz on pics so I will add my scar too....But....Staples or clamps(15 in all) were used to close mine and I have been putting scar lotion on it for weeks. Not as pretty as Dalton's and mine is on the very left side...His seems to be more in front. I think Josephine did post some scars at one time and talked about posterior, bilateral, etc....Anyway, get to that parade.....Patty

sewell44@bellsouth.net
July 4th, 2008, 09:41 AM
Patty,
I don't think mine looks anywhere near as nice as Dalton's. I was glued together so no staples or stitches.

Sofa King

Thanks for the compliments on the pics Guys... Glad you enjoyed!

(As I think I've said before), whomever stitched me up used 'fishing line' like sutchers, no glue or staples, and 10 days out, he snipped just one off, saying the rest would absorb and dissolve. Easy as 1-2-3... I think Jo was right; I think I got the "posterior lateral" access. The angle is deceiving, that's my butt facing the "7'Oclock" position in the incision pic. Ok, hope that wasn't TMI... LOL

~Dalton

We call that a subcutaneous suture, Dalton, 'case you're interested! By far the neatest and cleanest method of closing skin. But it doesn't take any strain of holding the wound closed, only the skin edges.

Sofa King
July 4th, 2008, 06:10 PM
"Subcutaneous suture"? That's sounds right, based on my medical terminology training... Thanks Jo. (another note on my incision pic, it's basically 180 degrees turned upside down, because of how I held the cellphone, if anyone is confused).

I have a new puzzling symptom, need some feedback. I think I'll start a new thread...

Here I am. My youngest did all this for me, now you can understand her comments under her picture. This was taken in my favorite place Yosemite National Park
Sorry about the gigantic size of the pics, she insisted she could not shrink them. Of course I know she can, she was laughing too much doing this.

Judy, what a wonderful crew. And yeah, you did have me going for a minute there naming one child a favorite, publicly especially. I thought oh no, can't believe she did that. Don't worry, Josephine can shrink them if need be.

I see your picture on my PC, too. Must be something specific to your PC, Jen.

You look incredibly young! Esp, to have a 22 year old.

Good looking crew, including mom.
Black Sabbath...It is amazing how some groups don't go away. I saw them in concert in Miami several times...About blew my ears out.

Yep, I'm just waiting for my son to get home from a youth party at the church.
Seems that while I was gone, he and/or his friend saw fit to drive a 12 inch spike in the front yard. Just the right height for me to hit with the lawn mower!!
I missed hitting it but I've got a perfect "life lesson" as to why I don't let him do certain things.....They just don't think of repercussions for their actions.

Well a minor thing my daughter Jamie did about 6 years ago was decide she wanted a pond in the back yard. She and neighborhood friends dug a really giant hole in the back yard.
She never earned any money for the giant pond, pump etc., but when we went to sell the house everyone asked why the backyard had a huge dip in it.
More recently, one of my favorite stories was when we moved to Ca. Jamie at age 18 stayed and had one weekend in our house. My husband let that happen. A call from Jamie, Jeff and I were hiking, as the police had surrounded the house and demanded to speak to her parents. She called and got the youngest who told her we were hiking. The police asked where as they were going to send someone to talk to us. She waas in Georgia and told them we were hiking in Ca. A nosy neighbor had called and said we moved and someone was in our house!!!! They knew it was Jamie!!!!

Of course the next day our realtor called and said there was a person sized hole in the living room!!!!
Kids are great

Or Doug,
How about waking up, going to get the paper and having 35 BIG political signs in our front yard back in May.....For Mayor, City Council, School Board....I just looked down the street and all the yards were completely empty. That was a fun one to explain since we knew it had to be one of my high school son or daughters friends. Talk about AEROFYING the grass.....Lovely holes everywhere......

One of my Sergeants had a family dog die. He got the kids out back, buried it and had a little ceremony...About six months later, the kids wanted to see the dog so they dug it up!!
He was not happy.

Our kids "fork" yards. They put plastic forks in tong end all over the yard. Takes forever to clean up. But better than TP in the trees.

My 17 year old dug a hug hole in the yard when he was in 2-3rd grade. It was probably 3 feet deep. He decided it would be a good idea to fill it with some water, which made great mud. His little brother (probably K-1st grade at the time) got in and got stuck in the mud. It was like quicksand. His older sister came to the rescue, but they had a heck of a time pulling him out.. then explaining all the mud to mom later. This is only one of the stupid things they've done.

With 90+ lb dogs, I never even consider burying them in the yard. We have them cremated. Urns are easier to deal with.

Skeet,
I am with you, I have two urns...one of my schnauzer and my Beagle Snoopy...We actually have a PETS AT PEACE cemetery outside of town and they also do cremation....Can you tell, I am for sure and animal lover....
By the way, Skeet...headed to Fredericksberg. Have a girlfriend from College that has a ranch...I am going to chase a Longhorn so I can get my pic with the creature and dedicate it to you when I post....Just those lasting memories of Texas.....

Skeet,
I never heard of forking the yard!!
I'm afraid to mention it here as it will start something new in Ca. Part of me wants to mention it just to take pictures and know who started it!!
Their is my mischievious side again.

Actually I just thought of the perfect yard to fork!!

mama Judy, I see you now. Just took a while for the pix to download and for some reason that first day i had a little box with an X in it instead of a picture. You do look young. Whay again did you need hip replacement?

Doug - ewww! that's all I have to say.

sewell44@bellsouth.net
July 9th, 2008, 07:43 PM
Jennifer,
Thanks for the compliment. I had severe OA. My hip has bothered me for years , but it kicked up a few notches last fall. MRI arthrogram in Dec showed a small amount of arthritis. My surgeon did arthroscopic surgery with microfracture surgery , but when he got in there was widespread arthritis. He told me I did not have a very good prognosis and would need a replacement soon.
My spine is a mess also. My explanation is hypopituitarism. I finally found a brilliant endocrinologist who is treating me. Lots of damage was done, it caused a rapid acceleration of the degeneration process while untreated.

My kids have kept me young as I want to be one step ahead of them. Doesn't always work!!

So, if you don't mind my asking, what caused you to need a hip replacement at 38? That's really young for joint replacement.

Hey Skeet!

Well, here's what my OS said, based on my history...

In my early 20's, after I got out of the Military, I went to college for a couple years, and couldn't decide "what I wanted to be when I grew up". I had a big background in swimming/diving/watersports, so I went to Commercial Diving School in Houston, TX. 9 months later, I went to work. Due to the deep dives I did, with mixed gases, and the profundity of pressures, the bends, etc, I lost blood flow to the top of my femur, which in turn caused AVN, or avascular necrosis, and the downfall of my femoral head. 15 years later, here I am! I never felt any pain until about 3 months prior to my surgery, but the OS said I was in the advanced stages, and it has been decaying for years. I hope my Right hip doesn't do the same!

Uh, Brother Dalton,
My gun is bigger than yours!!

DOUG!!! WOW BROTHER!!! I THINK YOU GOT ME THERE! WHAT AN AWESOME PIC! You are LE also right? and maybe you're Reserve Air Guard? Isn't that an Apache? I was in the 101st, (not a pilot unfortunately, but tried. Took the FAST test, scored great, and was accepted to Ft. Rucker, then not, because they'd accepted too many for the quarter! I was VERY dissapointed!). Anyway, sorry I'm seeing this so late, I'm very impressed. Would like to know more Brother... You're a pilot, Crew Chief, Nav Man, what? I love this stuff... I rode and jumped outta many UH-60's, and got to ride shotgun in a Cobra once, but no UH-64's... Let me know. Jo moved this thread I started in post hip to "lifestyles", and I haven't even followed up until now...

JUDY!!! SWEETHEART!!! Once again, I haven't checked this thread in about a week or more, and (Jo appropriately moved it to 'lifestyles'), and it is so very nice to put a face with the name! Wow, you look great, and you're kids are awesome! Very much enjoyed all of them! You are so lucky! Wish I had seen these sooner... I'll still be around from time to time, so I look forward to seeing and talking to you again soon...

~Dalton
By the way, I'm not sure where you are, but I love it! Jess and I are so very tired of the hot/humid Summers in Memphis, and we're doing everything we can to get our ducks in a row, and move out West, "North" West, preferably. Maybe WY, maybe CO, maybe UT, but we want mountains, snow in the Winter, and WOS, (Wide Open Spaces!)

Hi Dalton,
Thanks for the compliments. The kids are great, drive me crazy , but I love them.

The pics of me and Tim were taken in Yosemite National Park. It is about a 5 hour drive from where I am in southern California. A very special place. I was lucky enough to get to visit twice in a few months.
I love the west as well. I have a mountain trail just 1/2 mile up the road from me. Hundreds more around.
I lived in Atlanta for 10 years and just moved back here almost 2 years ago. I know about the heat and humidity and bugs!!!

Dalton,
After 30, I retired from the Tallahassee Police Dept three years ago. I'm now a full time dad/house spouse..Quite a role change.
It is an Apache. My last assignment was Division Commander for Special Operations. Being the state capitol, there are always some type of special event going on. When the picture was taken, the Fla. National Guard was doing a demo for the politicians. We had to clear traffic and provice security.

Dalton, I live in Oregon and we love it here. I grew up in Texas and the midwest and know about humidity. Our weather is wonderful - a few really hot days in the summer but not many; a few cold days in the winter but not many. It doesn't rain nearly as much as folks think. And the summers with almost no rain are worth it. We live in the Willamette Valley - one hour from the ocean and one from the mountains where you can ski a good portion of the year. We are only a couple hours from Mt. Hood where the US Ski Team practices most of the year. We have almost no humidity here, few bugs, almost no natural issues like tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes. We do have ice and wind storms now and then.

Okay, just wanted to let you know how great it is here to encourage you in your quest to move west!
