I am wondering if anyone has had surgery where only a local was used. When I had my first hip replacement the surgeon asked if I wanted to be awake during surgery. I didn't, but am considering it now.

Since my surgery is in 2 days, I'd appreciate any thoughts on this.

Hi Linda
I wouldn't advise it by all means have an epidural but they also have you lightly asleep so you don't hear all sawing and banging. They usually give another epidural after the surgery before you come round properly so that you are free from any post op pain
