Wow Josephine, your surgeon did such a nice clean job on our knee. Bet you end up with a very neat barely noticeable scar. Looks like it is healing nicely too.

Yes, he did, didn't he? But then I expected nothing less from him!

I am not sure what mine is going to look like. I already have a long curved scar from the ACL removal on the inside of the knee, and the OS said he couldn't cut down the middle of the front of the knee because then the skin between the two scars would not have enough blood flow. So i guess he is going to cut along the old scar. Does that make sense, to cut an old scar out Its a good three or three and a half inches from where y'all's scars are.

I'd trust whatever he wants to know. You certainly wouldn't want a section of skin that had dramatically reduced blood flow. Sounds like your incision will make a great photo.....

I am going to attach a photo of my scars which I took sitting on a stool with my pant legs hiked up at lunch time today. I am currently 9.5 months post op. If you double click on the Thumbnail it becomes full size. You can see how my 6 inch incisions are cut medially on each knee.
Best, Crystal |

Thats interesting. You obviously are not having any problems with blood supply to the tissues between the scars.
My own ACL scar is a bit bigger than that, but not a whole lot. Thanks. Maybe this is one more thing I can just stop worrying so much about. My anxiety level is probably a little on the high side right now because I just quit smoking last week. I read somewhere that smoking affects the healing, and so I quit. Cold turkey. I have been screaming obscenities at bozos driving 20 mph talking on cell phones, etc. The dog is hiding from me. |

It is the usual practice to use an old scar when one is present, both from the vascular and the cosmetic points of view.

Morning everyone, I have attached two photographs at 14 days one with clips, one after they were removed. I am very pleased with the job he has done, just wish my muscle and knee bend were as good!!

I managed to break the foot 2 mths ago on the same knee replacement knee.... Silly me.. Your knees looks so well healed even at that stage.... |

In pre-op, my OS wrote his initials on the leg we agreed he was going to operate on. That's the "AC" in the photo. Then he drew three lines where he was contemplating cutting. The curved one followed the previous scar from my old Slocum procedure. He was concerned about the skin between the old cut and the new one getting adequate blood flow. So, when I went under Monday night, I didn't know WHERE the new cut would be.
![]() And here it is, five days after surgery: ![]() So you can see he decided to go the direct route. |

We make a good matching pair - except that your leg has obviously seen more sun than mine has lately!
I had 33 staples - I reckon you've got less! How are you feeling now? |

I put the answer to this on the "Hi Y'all" thread, since this one is mainly for scar photos I think..

I'm so vain. I probably think this thread is about me (and my jacked up knee)! I didn't have the heart to post the photo with the staples on my blog because I thought it too much for the uninitiated, meaning those who haven't gone through knee replacement. I did, however, post the second photo after the staples were taken out. Even that made people kind of squeamish. Wimps.

I haven't even mentioned TKR on my tropical 2Gringos blog at all. I took a bunch of nice tropical photos so that I had enough material with me to do a couple more posts while I am off getting sawn up. You are right, this kind of stuff is a bit harsh for those who have never been cut open to this extent.

Nice blog, Gringo. I nominate your place for our meeting of the Bonesmart Bionic Knee Society. Warm weather? Warm water? Good food? I'm there!
