Boy, I second THAT motion, Surf!!! We have thought about a trip to the Turks and Caicos for a couple of years, but Gringo's photos have put it on a front burner!! The water looks amazing.

The water is awesome. And I have had to forego a few things I would really love to do, with one of the main ones being kite boarding. Now I am thinking that a few months down the road there is no reason I should not be able to try it! I am pretty excited about that.

A buddy of mine was down for a visit about a month ago. Here is a photo of us standing on my patio:

Now, we are the same age. (He's five days older). We have been friends since we were fifteen. We were room mates at college. He was always just about a half inch, at most, taller. We had not seen each other in twelve years, until my trip to Houston to meet with my new OS this spring. When he saw me in shorts in the TCI he said to me, immediately " you didn't have bowed legs when we were growing up! and you were almost as tall as I am! What happened??"

Good question. But it obviously did happen.

Now, looking at this photo, I notice me leaning back on the wall for support. Putting my weight on my right leg ( the better one) and still leaning to the left. And how much more crooked my legs are than his. Well, my left one is now straighter and longer!!

The evidence of my problem is obvious is in the size of my thighs. My right quad is big, as it should be after years of racing bicycles. My left quad is quite small. As the knee got worse, I started doing everything with my weight on my right leg. As a result, my left leg got smaller and smaller and smaller. I hope to build it back up to the point that it resembles the right leg. I don't know if that's even possible, but I'm going to try.

I absolutely love knee scar photos. I haven't a clue why, but when I saw mine for the first time, I laughed. I named it- "Fronkensteen" after Gene Wilder's line in Young Frankenstein.

My photos were taken with my mobile phone- mostly while I was still in the hospital. I stayed with my parents for two weeks after I was discharged (which was two weeks after the surgery) because my house is a two-story with the loo upstairs. My parents' house is one-level with a handicapped-accessible bathroom (my dad is a heart patient, mom a diabetic who is having her own health issues at the moment). I'm posting links as I tend to get a bit carried away posting pics.

The day after surgery- the nurse who changed my dressing took the photo for me.

Twenty-six staples. This was two weeks after the surgery.

My drain left a bruise that looked like a face.

Staple removal. The staple at the top got bent the wrong way and we had to wait for the doctor to come in, numb me up with lidocaine, and dig it out.

Nice pictures, Frog, and welcome to the forum. It's the place where you can get all your questions answered - very helpful!

How did you get away with only 26 staples when I had 33? Well, actually I had 32 in the left leg, 33 in the right. Some of mine were very difficult to get out - I could have done with a shot of something like you had!

"no, Doc, Honest, I did NOT get it wet in the ocean today....because you told me to wait six weeks and well, that would just be wrong..."

I did, however, boat hard for about six hours today, with a lot of heavy pounding. And the old, organic, original knee is the one hurting right now. NOT the new one!

Wow, and here I thought they were two of the ugliest knees in creation. The left one ( new one) is still swollen I guess. And it's hard to believe that my right knee was my GOOD knee for many years! Heck, it's only missing most of the cartilage on the inside and the ACL is gone.

If felt great to get back on the boat yesterday. almost six weeks since I have been on a boat! And this morning, just the usual stiffness of having spent a day offshore. You use a lot of small muscles riding around on a boat, just staying upright, walking, etc. It's a constant balancing act. Like a human Segway.

These are my definitely non-lovely knees today. Oh dear! My left knee has a definite dip at the top. I've been told that will go in time, but I'm not convinced - although it isn't as pronounced at it was a while ago. My latest knee is obviously still a bit swollen! I've got several previous scars, as well as the drain scar. I hadn't realised till I saw this that I haven't got a matching pair of scars. They were done by different people, which I didn't learn until I went for my 6 week check this week. The second knee was done by the registrar, the first by the actual consultant. Interesting!

Please don't look at the background. Why was there a white cloth on the floor?!!!

Oh, you have a dimple, just like me! Now I know I'm always going on about massage being unnecessary but this is different! Just knead on either side of the scar from time to time with your knuckles and after a while, it should release. It's just where the beginning stitch has been made too tight and hasn't broken down like it should.

You got a matching pair on each knee, I see!

Which were you referring to - the big TKR scars, or the smaller, faded scars from my cartilage removals 30 years or so ago, or the arthroscopy scars or......?!!! They are quite a talking point. However, I prefer not to flaunt them too much!!

Thansk for the tip on kneading around the old TKR scar. It doesn't look very pretty with that dimple!!
