Default THR done now knee

Hey Group,
I was in pt a couple of days ago for my hip replaced on left side..
PT wanted me to do a knee bend with my right knee.. I am not weight bearing on the left hip yet.
Well, I could not bend the knee more than a few degrees.. in other words, I can not kneel with the right knee because its weak and painful.
I know the pt personally and she said are you still in denial.
Well I am. Thing is, when just sitting or whatever knee does not hurt.. just gets uncomfortable to stand for any length of time or go up stairs..
I suppose its time.
Question: Have any of you knee replacement individuals gone through a hip and knee.
I want a comparison.
Hip has been a piece of cake.. easy deal no problem and very little pain even in rehab.
I have talked to some who say knee is harder to recover from with Pt.
I even drove my 6 speed car today just 4 weeks after surgery and its my left hip.
Any info is helpful and appreciated.

ps. I was in denial on the hip until after surgery and found out how good it now feels to move..
I can not even do a leg extension on the weight machine with any weight.. too painful.
Pt person said I would be able to do after surgery and thinks I really need the knee done. Especially since I babied that knee with left side and caused the hip issue.

Funny, you're the second person today to ask similar question. If you think of the hips and knees as four corners of a square, it's not at all uncommon for all four corners to go within a short period of time.

And yes, knees are worse than hips. You surely must have read around the Knee forums? But pain management is key as is ice and elevation. Read 17 Years 5 (FIVE) Total Joint Replacements!

I know of many people who've had both hips and knees done. Met another one at the gym only yesterday!

Pilot,

Yes, knees are harder because of the pain in regaining the ROM. There also seems to be a lot more tendon/ligament pain. I had my first knee done the traditional way and the second was a form of minimally invasive (MIS) approach. If you can find a surgeon that does MIS, by all means go that way. My MIS knee was much much easier to recover from. I've had a few problems with my hip replacement but I still found the knees more difficult. (infection and a muscle wrapped up in old scar tissue that makes it not want to work)

Yikes.
I do know my other hip has wear on it.. and believe it or not it hurts worse than the one I had replaced just 4 weeks after surgery..
Strange...feeling.
I can not imagine getting the other hip and knee done...
That is a scary thought...
I do plan to do some snow skiing.. easy stuff and that would be a lot of artificial joints...
Anyway, thanks for the info.. I have read where it is harder.. and have seen individuals in Pt struggle and others having it pretty easy.
Take care,

Pilot, you might want to give yourself a little time before you have any other joints replaced. Sometimes they will flare up a little on you after one is replaced (like your new hip) because they are helping compensate for the surgery. Things may settle down and let you buy yourself some time.
