Default update from Phil ie ready to go

HI GUYS and GALS

Thought I would update everyone about my upcoming total hip replacement.

Schedule:
Went to a joint replacement class last week. It was very helpful
I am getting a stress test tomorrow ie pre-surgery heart evaluation.
Feb 11th go for pretesting at hosp (Baptist east). Have had great experience with them so far and have heard GREAT things.

Feb 24 is the big day. 6:30 arrival at baptist east and will be second one that day. Have only heard goods things about Eggers.
April 24 play golf 1st time. That's right they are saying 2months.

Currently have regular hip pain constant at level 1 or 2 (out of 10). And when I do anything stressful goes to 5 and then can jump to sharp, fast 8. Below is the reason things went so fast. Once I was in regular pain and got the diagnoses for cause I decided to do it. And then everyone, and I mean everyone, who has had it done said do not wait. I too am surprised at the speed. The procedure is very routine these days. My class had 35 people in it and they give it twice a week.

Do have scare, concern and worry about major surgery, but right now I am very tired of constant daily pain. It is like a dull toothache. I am ready to go.

You're on your way!! WOW - 35 people in the class! Mine only had 6!

I just wish there was a 'majikal wand' to make the recovery part go faster...but I can already tell improvement from before surgery.

Well you only have a couple of weeks now and soon your will too will be saying "Why Oh Why did I wait so long"!!!
If I read you righ you already have a date to play golf on April 21st! I think that is being positive..and I sure hope your healed enough then to do it.

I am getting a little annoyed with the pain I am getting again, the more I do the more it hurts and I have a ways to go. Somehow you think you will never forget that pain but you sure do! I can't wait to get mine done and hope it goes just like the first one.
I wish you much luck and and know your just gonna be fine and out there yelling FOUR!!!!! Stay in touch here!!!

Thumbs up Re: update from Phil ie ready to go

Hi there Phil,
I am 10 days post op, and I can say that my pre op pain levels were similar to yours. I had posterior approach with ceramic on plastic and have full weight bearing. The old pain has gone from day 1, I can walk around with one crutch no problem, I am off all pain meds just aspirin for clotting. The joint feels so natural I always thought that you would know you had something alien in there, not at all. I can't wait for the six week post op. The operation is fantastic I was awake the whole time a great experience. Don't worry about a thing.

Ronnie

I'd say "good luck", but then you really will not need any luck. You'll feel crappy for a couple days, then things improve very rapidly. It may not seem rapid at the time, but a month out you'll be amazed at your recovery. Keep us posted.

there were a lot of knee people there. this class is twice a week.

They say they are the biggest jointers in the nation. They have a 2 floor wing just for joint replacement recovery. It has its own gym and staff.

If you find a wand wave it at me too.

yep sunshine. They told me in my class 2 months till I can swing a club again. What I hope is that I can swing thru the ball more, ie, bigger turn. I have been limiting my swing and amount of play for years because of what I thought was a groin injury. My short game ie, wedges and putting never suffered. I just could not do a big turn for distance. Not any more I hope. I know it will be less pain after golf.

Oh, friend, you are in for the most amazing experience ever! Like Ronnie said, you will notice immediately that the old gnawing, life-draining pain is GONE! I love PT because it made me feel like I wasn't a patient but a person participating in my own recovery--kinda like I used to feel at the gym, working toward my own fitness. You will be amazed at the speed of recovery--after that first awkward couple of weeks, that is, when you feel like you're not quite sure what to do with yourself or how to do it. After those first few weeks, you snap back to the world of CAN-DO! Can't wait to hear from you when you join all of us on The Other Side!

You might be suprised at your golf swing!! It could be a WHOLE lot better!

I've never been able to 'sit up' to my instructor's statisfaction riding (and leaning a little forward makes it easier to come off). Butt always sticking out behind or legs coming up.

Just noticed a couple days ago that I'm not having to fight to keep my butt 'under' me walking....also it's just tucking in place sitting in my wierd computer chairs now (again - always thot I had back issues till now).

I think that the bone impingmenet that ended up trashing the hip was keeping the pelvis from sitting down where it's supposed to for YEARS now. PT agreed yesterday just from watching me walk in normal shoes (she's known me for 20 yrs...).

Phil,
I'll be thinking of you next Wednesday. Down in Louisville, getting a new hip from Dr. Eggers! You'll free from that dull aching pain!!!! You'll be golfing pain free and strong before you know it. Meanwhile, recovery will keep you busy. Will look forward to your progress reports!

No, Phil, not a pic post op...Just a happy one of hubby, Paul and I (2008 or so)...that's the Madison bridge behind us. Preacher man Paul, had just officiated at a outside wedding on the Milton side of the Ohio river. Hey, hope you are resting up and all ready for your big day next week. We will be thinking of you!! Keep Paul in your prayers, he'll be having a bone scan on Feb.25th at the VA hospital. Check the social room for the details.
