“The pain became so intense that I had a difficult time walking the 40 feet from the elevator to my office,” says Elaine Mirsky. The experience sent her on a journey to change her life.

Elaine had a busy life traveling with her job at American Express in New Jersey and spending time with her two grown children. But arthritis had ravaged both of her hips and, eventually, the pain became so overwhelming that walking and even sitting were agonizing.

After hearing about the potential benefits of a minimally invasive hip replacement procedure (smaller incision, shorter hospital stay, faster rehabilitation, and perhaps a quicker return to daily activities), she asked her physician to refer her to a surgeon in her area trained to perform the procedure. After her consultation, Elaine learned that she was a candidate for a minimally invasive technique and quickly decided to have the surgery on each of her hips, a year apart.

“Only three weeks after my first surgery, I enjoyed Thanksgiving with my family, without pain,” say Elaine.

Elaine has regained her active life, dancing, playing cards with friends, and walking everywhere. When asked what she would tell others who suffer from devastating hip pain, Elaine doesn’t hesitate: “Go for it,” she says.
