Thank you mojo333. I️ finally made it to this side. [emoji4][emoji4]. I’m Keeping my pain at bay as best I️ can with pain meds and ice. I️ Set the alarm on my phone to remind me since I️ am a little groggy. And thankfully I️ have good help at home If my pain stays at this level I️ will definitely be pleased with not having more intense pain. Also, the LLD isn’t feeling as bad as I️ expected. Of course that won’t be remedied until the next hip is completed.

Sound good @smstok. I am impressed with the folks going home so quickly, some the same dy. I had surgery on a Monday and went home Thursday. With upcoming second hip they say I may be out within 24 hours. Stay on top of pain and keep up with the little walks.

Yeah. It is pretty amazing how fast they have us in and out. I guess that’s a reflection of advanced technology within medicine.

@smstok great to hear you made it home so soon! Keep us all posted on your progress -
We're rooting for you!

Thank you Bebe. So far so good. If my pain level doesn’t rise above what I️ have experienced so far I️ will be greatly thankful. I’ve been keeping up with pain meds and icing so that’s been a great help. Luckily minimal nausea as well.

Yay...I thought I would cry when they kicked me out after 2 nights, but was glad once I got home.
Happy you are on this side. Rest all you can...you've been through a big surgery!
Yay for new hip for a new year.:happydance:

@smtock ,

You'll notice that I have moved your newest post and started your recovery thread. For several reasons, we prefer that you have your own recovery thread:
  • That way, we have all your information in one place. This makes it easier to go back and review your history before providing advice.
  • With your own recovery thread, you will see the posts and advice others have left for you.
  • Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.
So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here. If you prefer a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.
If you need an urgent response to a question, just tag a member of staff.
How to tag another member; how to answer when someone tags you

Here are the instructions on finding your thread, How can I find my threads and posts? . Many members bookmark their thread, so they can find it when they log on.

Welcome to the other side!

Here is your copy of the post op guidelines, the articles are short and will not take long to read.

Hip Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

Pain management and the pain chart
Healing: how long does it take?
Chart representation of THR recovery

Dislocation risk and 90 degree rule
Energy drain for THRs
Pain and swelling control: elevation is the key

Post op blues is a reality - be prepared for it

Myth busting: on getting addicted to pain meds
Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

Welcome to this side! The short walks to the bathroom and kitchen are good and really all the exercise you need. Lots of naps and rest along with the icing and elevating (toes above nose) is all you need. You will be surprised at how quickly things improve. By the end of a week, you can actually look back and see how far you have come. Don’t try to compare your recovery to anyone else’s as each person recovers at a different rate. Sending healing wishes your way!

Yep, one good trip to the restroom and back, and you feel like you just dug a ditch.
Your body needs all its energy for healing these first few days...so only do what you absolutely have to.
All temporary!
Getting well time. :ice:

Thank you grannyc. You just described exactly where I’m at at this point. Getting plenty of rest with naps here and there, making my way around the house with the walker fairly well, and keeping the elevation, meds and ice going. This is day 3 and feeling fortunate that my pain level has been tolerable thus far. Tomorrow I️ will be on my own a good 6 hours during the day but I️ think I️ will do just fine. I’ve been reading so many posts and definitely adhering to the one I️ see over and over....... “don’t over-do it”.

Yay....glad you "get it".
All will get good in time.
Hope you have a Good Day.

:hi: Welcome to the good side
You sound great! Wishing you well tomorrow on your first day alone.
Get lots of rest, use lots of ice, stay on schedule with the meds and you'll do fine.
Check in with us if you're bored, there is always someone around to have an exchange with.
A flower for you

Mojo333 that is so funny. I️ was fine with going home although it did seem awkward. I️ think I️ was more worried about the actual drive home. [emoji51][emoji51]

Hey @smstok for the meds, I used the alarms on my phone, but also a free app called Medisafe. The app was especially helpful in the beginning, as you can put in what each pill looks like and how many you need to take.

Thank you Layla. I’ll gladly accept that flowery smile [emoji4][emoji4]. I️’ve been on here off and on keeping up with various information and reading about others experiences or upcoming surgeries.
